Drinking up in London

...................................................................................
Drinking time in London revolves around a dizzying array of pubs and bars. Whether it’s Soho drinking dens, Nottin Hill’s stylish watering holes, an historic inn or a modern and shiny one, London’s drinking tradition is delightfully disparate and contrasting.
The so called “boozer”, the pub (abbreviation of public house) was just a place where people could drink, eat and even sleep in early times.
The majority of modern watering holes are in place of the ancient “gin palace” of late ninetieth century. In Maida Vale is the Crockers Folly, the most representative example.
London Bars and cafés have changed in recent times into new and modern watering holes serving drinks a meals from the simplest to the finest.
Between pubs and clubs are what Londoners refer to as bars or club bars. These are a mix between pubs and clubs. They stay open later than pubs but not as late as clubs.

Customs and Traditions

...................................................................................
Pubs are open from until 11 pm, however some close in the afternoon or for the weekend. You must be 18 to buy alcoholics, and at least 14 to enter pubs without being accompanied.
Order at the counter and pay when served. Tips are not usual, unless you are served at your table. Last places of orders are accepted until 10 minutes before closing time, and you are allowed up to 20 minutes to finish drinking.

Where to Drink in London

...................................................................................
London pubs are scattered all around the city. The largest concentration of pubs is in the Soho/Piccadilly Circus area, even if they are mostly attended by tourists. For a more typical taste, the Mayfair area offers more traditional, old English-style pubs.
