Notting Hill Carnival

Held in Notting Hill on the last weekend in August is the largest Caribbean carnival in Europe. On this occasion Notting Hill is the most colourful and lively area in London, attracting 2 millions of visitors, with its many spectacular floats, the traditional steel drum bands, parades and all the kinds of dance.

Trooping the Colour

The Queen's Official Birthday held in London in June each year. This display of pageantry is carried out by massed bands and features the Queen herself attending and taking the salute. The parade route extends from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and back again.


Autumn

Trafalgar Parade and Service

On October 21 (or nearest Sunday) a march to Trafalgar Square remembers the triumph of Nelson at Trafalgar in 1805. Wreaths are laid at the foot of Nelson's Column in the middle of the Square.

State Opening of Parliament

A huge ceremony usually held in November that marks the commencement of the annual session of the House of Lords, with the Queen opening the procession in a golden coach, the Stage Coach. The Queen travels from Buckingham Palace to Westminster, where the Royal Standard replaces the Union Flag on the Victoria Tower.

Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree

A large Christmas tree is annually decorated with lights and colourful ornaments in Trafalgar Square in December. The tree is given by Norway and presented as a token of gratitude for Britain's support during World War II.

New Year’s Day Parade
